Assiniboine Park Zoo is an 80-acre zoo located on the west side of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is home to 150 species of animals, including Polar Bears, Tigers, and Wolves.
The zoo’s many exhibits and attractions do an excellent job of showcasing the beauty of wildlife here in Canada and abroad. The “Journey to Churchill” exhibit displays wildlife from the Arctic Circle and includes Polar Bears and Seals. Visitors can watch the polar bears swim and play through an underwater viewing tunnel. The Zoo also includes the Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre, which is a research and education facility that supports polar bear conservation efforts around the world.
Other exhibits include Toucan Ridge, which features tropical birds and plants from Central and South America. There is also a butterfly garden and farmyard.
I’ve found that it’s best to visit the zoo as early as possible in the morning as that’s when the animals are the most active. This gives you the best chance to get close to the animals and provides a much better experience; one where the beauty of the animals can be really appreciated.
