Throughout Manitoba, the remains of many railway stations lie scattered amongst the prairie landscape. They serve as a reminder of a different time when the automobile wasn’t the main mode of transportation, and instead, it was by train. At one point, there were over 130 stations scattered throughout Manitoba.

The railway station in Piney was built in 1907. The rail line was primarily used for transporting wood from Piney and South Junction to Winnipeg.
The station contained living quarters on the upper floor, a triangular-shaped roof, and a wood stove for heat. In the early 50s, the station was updated with electrical wiring.

The station was closed in 1968 and the railway track was torn up and sold to Brazil. You can see the location of the old railway track on the leftmost above image. The track is now used as a quad trail during the summer months, and as a snowmobile trail during the winter.
Today the building is vacant and has been left in a decrepit state.
