Northern Manitoba is home to some of the largest waterfalls in the province. There’s Kwasitchewan Falls, which has a height of 14 meters. Within hiking distance from here is Pisew Falls, which stands 13 meters tall. Then there’s Wekuso Falls which is 12 meters tall.
Kwasitchewan Falls is known to be the largest waterfall in Manitoba. However, when I was browsing the World Waterfall Database, I discovered that there is a waterfall in Manitoba called Muhigan Falls that is listed at 19 meters!
According to the World Waterfall Database, this waterfall’s status is listed as “unconfirmed” which means “This waterfall is likely to exist, but its exact location, stature, and attributes have not yet been determined or confirmed.”
I’ve looked at satellite footage of the location of this waterfall, and can confirm that there is indeed a large waterfall here!
Accessing it doesn’t look super easy, but it should be feasible. An old logging road goes within a few kilometres of the waterfall. I plan to drive down the logging road as far as I can, then hike the rest of the way!
The total distance from Provincial Road 317 to the waterfall, and back will be about 40 kilometers.
I will be bringing several cameras along with me so that I can document the entire journey and produce a documentary of this expedition.
I’m also going to bring along a laser distance-measuring device so that I can accurately record the height of the waterfall.
Real-time tracking of my journey to the waterfall will be available right here on explorewithshayne.com.
